To our trainers,

As we continue to deal with the coronavirus pandemic on-and-off the backstretch, there have been significant impacts to the community. We continue to tackle them as part of a team along with NYRA, BEST, and the Chaplaincy.

One of those impacts has been the availability of workers due to quarantine, per the advisement of the Preparedness and Response Plan Committee, at the request of the BEST Clinic. In addition, as per Governor Cuomo’s PAUSE initiative, anyone over the age of 70 was advised to self-quarantine and not go to work.

We appreciate that this has caused a significant strain on your workforce and your ability to look after your horses, along with causing a significant strain on people’s livelihoods. But quarantines are a critical component in the battle against the pandemic and a necessary step to get back to live racing.

Monday’s webinar by Jen Shah (Dean Dorton) covered the topic of Sick and Family Leave Payroll Tax Credits at the end of the presentation and we have included just those slides here. The slides detail:

  • Which employees are entitled to pay
  • For how long
  • And at what wage

Please click on the image above to access the webinar slides.
We encourage you to review them with your financial advisor to ensure you are following State and Federal Labor Law.

To briefly summarize, if you have an employee under quarantine, they are
entitled to their full pay for a period of 14 days. As the employer, you are entitled to get a dollar-for-dollar tax credit on that wage payment. This should be a net zero impact to the bottom line and cash flow and you can apply for an advance payment on the credit. If you have any questions about who has been quarantined please contact me.

IMPORTANT POSTERS:

Attached here are posters in English and Spanish on the same subject that we encourage you to review and post in your barns for your employees.

Please click on the image above to display the flyer in English.

I also wanted to remind you that Membership Services Coordinator Kathy Locke has a database of staff willing to work. The goal is to connect trainers looking for help with people looking for work so please rely on Kathy if you need assistance.  She may be reached by email at klocke@nytha.com.

Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Will
