Born in 1954 in New Jersey, John C. Kimmel, V.M.D. graduated from prep school, Newark Academy, in 1972 after receiving the National Scholar Athlete award. John did his undergraduate studies at the University of Colorado before attending the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation in 1980, John went to S. Florida and worked as an associate for M. B. Teigland’s large equine practice. In 1987, John switched gears and became a full-time horse trainer. Now 30 years later, he has trained winners of over $60 million in purses. He has won over 45 stakes in New York alone and has won 7 training titles. John has also accomplished an extraordinary feat by saddling seven consecutive winners during the Saratoga race meet. He has trained many Grade 1 winners, including champion distaff mare Hidden Lake and recent Breeders’ Cup winner, NY-bred Bar Of Gold.
John also has two son, Ryan and Zack, and a 2yo granddaughter, Josephine Rose.
