John L. HardyJohn Hardy is Director of Government Relations for Featherstonhaugh, Wiley, & Clyne, L.L.C. He does extensive lobbying for the firm’s clients including, among others, Pepsi-Cola, Metropolitan Life, Goldman Sachs, Woodstock Ventures as well as NYTHA.
Previously, he was President of John L. Hardy Associates, Independent lobbyist and consultant to the racing industry. His activities there included conducting studies on the racing industry in the New York Metropolitan area for the New York State Urban Development Corporation and the Kentucky Thoroughbred breeding industry for Gainesway Farm. He was retained by John Gaines to design and create the Breeders’ Cup, served as the first Executive Director of Breeders’ Cup, Ltd., and worked with horsemen in OTB development in Ohio and Illinois. Hardy conducted extensive marketing studies and surveys while serving at the U.S. representative for the British bookmaking firm William Hill, Ltd. And created and served on the board of the Zweig Memorial Fund for Equine research at Cornell University.
Formerly, he was Secretary to the Chief of Staff of the New York Assembly Ways and Means Committee; Served as Chief Advisor to the Speaker and Majority members of the Assembly on all matters relating to New York State and local government finance and management. John served as primary spokesman for the Assembly on all budget and tax programs and as Chief negotiator for the Assembly with Senate and Executive representatives on all of those issues.
